Area Lawmaker Scolded for Improper Use of Twitter Account

Friday, January 5th, 2018 -- 8:59 AM

(WDLB) -An area lawmaker will not be penalized for improper use of his official Twitter account.

State Representative Bob Kulp was found in violation of state laws that prohibit lawmakers from using government resources for personal gain. In Kulp’s case, he was using his official Twitter and Facebook accounts to promote his roofing company. An examination of the photos on both accounts found several contained either references to completed projects and pictures of a work vehicle displaying his company’s name and phone number. The Stratford republican says the messages were not intended to be used as marketing tools for his company. Instead, they represented a somewhat blurred line between his personal social media posts and official presence.

Kulp’s office has confirmed that the posts were investigated by the state Ethics Commission, and that he will be taking steps to separate his business content from his official state content in the future. Kulp has also confirmed that the commission did give him a warning and has deleted some of the messages. Kulp represents the 69th Assembly District which covers portions of Wood, Clark and Marathon Counties.
