Owen City Council Approves Budget

Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 -- 9:02 AM

-The Owen City Council approved their 2018 budget at their meeting on Tuesday of last week.

The budget came to $1,061,628 for the general fund, $431,000 for the sewer and $564,225 for the water. Also, Clark County Emergency Management Director John Ross informed the council that the County has a lease for space on the water tower. The issue is they need electric. So, instead of installing another meter, the council approved the city of Owen billing the County for their share of the electric. The council also approved the additional cost to the 4th Street Water Project. According to MSA, due to two additional water valves at Paul and 4th, and other water lines and sewer laterals being added, an additional $25,579.50 was needed for the 4th St Project.

Finally, during the Public Opinion portion of the meeting, one resident reported that the sidewalk is already cracking on 4th Street. He also was concerned about the lack of lights on the new feed mill. Another resident stated his concern for public safety when the county is busy when needed here. And another said that traffic on North Paul Street isn’t slowing down and there are speeders everyday.
