New Dates for Central Wisconsin State Fair

Wednesday, November 29th, 2017 -- 9:03 AM

(WDLB) -The Central Wisconsin State Fair based in Marshfield will be moving its dates.

The Board which manages the fair voted Monday to move the event back by a week, meaning it will start one week earlier than in previous years. Manager Dale Christiansen says the move accomplishes two things--it avoids the on-going conflict with the start of the school year, and it accommodates a carnival vendor the fair had been pursuing. The fair's new carnival vendor is North American Midway Expositions. The move in dates might mean the loss of the draft horse show. Christiansen says his fair's new dates conflict with a draft horse competition in Minnesota the same week. Some other negative impacts of the fair moving its dates means it will now conflict with the Edgar Steam and Gas Engine Show and the Loyal Cornfest. But Christiansen says the early feedback on moving the fair dates has been positive.

And the dates aren't the only things changing. Christiansen says the gate admission pricing will increase as well. Single daily gate admission prices have been raised from nine-dollars to ten-dollars for those 13-and-older. And there is no longer a teenage price--only children and adult prices. And the normal Wednesday to Monday scenario will disappear, too. It will now be a Tuesday through Sunday fair, and next year's dates are August 21st through 26th.
