Clark County's Family Court Commissioner Announces Candidacy for Clark County Judge

Tuesday, November 21st, 2017 -- 10:08 AM

-Lyndsey Boon Brunette, the current Clark County Family Court Commissioner, has announced
her candidacy for Clark County Circuit Court Judge.

Brunette stated, “I have been encouraged by local officials, community leaders, and Clark County residents to run to replace Judge Jon Counsell who has announced his non-candidacy for the 2018 Spring Election. I am grateful to have received such support in taking this next step in my legal career.”

Brunette is a Clark County native. She was raised just north of Christie and graduated from
Neillsville High School. Brunette received her Bachelor’s Degree of Criminal Justice from the
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She earned her law degree from William Mitchell College of
Law in St. Paul, MN.

As the Clark County Family Court Commissioner, Brunette acts as the court official making
decisions on temporary orders and motions in divorce and family matters and handles
stipulated divorce proceedings. She is also responsible for small claims cases, restraining order
matters, reviewing warrants, and handling bail hearings on criminal matters amongst other
duties.

After campaigning in 2012 for the Clark County District Attorney position, Brunette was elected
and took office as the District Attorney in 2013. Brunette was responsible for the criminal
prosecution of such serious felonies as homicides, sexual assaults, financial crimes, drug
trafficking and drug offenses, burglaries, and repeat OWIs. She also handled misdemeanor,
forfeiture, and administrative caseloads.

In 2010, Brunette began working as the Clark County Corporation Counsel handling civil
litigation for the county including representing the public’s interest in mental health
commitments, children in need of protection or services, elder abuse, guardianships, county
ordinance enforcement, child support enforcement, and representing and advising the many
county governing bodies and departments. She was the Corporation Counsel until being sworn
in as the Clark County District Attorney in 2013.

Prior to and during law school, Brunette worked as a legal assistant with the Hennepin County
Attorney’s Office in Minneapolis, MN for three years, splitting her time between the Gang Unit
and the Adult Violent Crimes Divisions. During law school, Brunette interned with AARP
focusing on public policy programs and lobbying relations. She also completed a legal clerkship
with a personal injury law firm in Eagan, MN.

“My years of success as a prosecutor and public servant attorney have been the result of the
firm objectives to always be prepared and have a strong grasp of the legal issues and the
applicable law,” Brunette said. “I already have an excellent working relationship with the court
personnel and local justice system agencies from my current appointment as Family Court
Commissioner, my time as the District Attorney, and as Corporation Counsel. I will continue to
work with those agencies as your circuit court judge.”

Beyond her experience, Brunette believes she has the temperament and attributes necessary
for the important position of Circuit Court Judge. Throughout her career as a prosecutor and
now as a commissioner, Brunette has always strived to be honest, forthright, fair and courteous
with all those she comes in contact with, from the public to the judiciary to the legal
community. Brunette also realizes that court is not a familiar and comfortable place for many
that end up there but feels her history of patience and respect will show participants that they
are a valued part of the justice system in Clark County and to make it a less intimidating
experience for them. Brunette stated, “I assure the citizens of Clark County that I will bring each
of these qualities to the bench. All decisions I render will be impartial, well-reasoned, fair, and
just to all involved.”

Lyndsey is married to Jacob Brunette, also raised in Neillsville. They returned to Clark County in
2010 to continue their legal careers and start their family. They have three young children.
Jacob is the current Corporation Counsel for Clark County. Lyndsey is a member and the
Secretary/Treasurer of the Clark County Bar Association and a member of the Neillsville
Optimist Club. She and her family are members of St. John’s Church of Christie.
