Day One of Central Wisconsin State Fair a Huge Success

Thursday, August 31st, 2017 -- 8:00 AM

(WDLB) -Day one of the Central Wisconsin State Fair in Marshfield was a huge success.

Fairgoers enjoyed beautiful weather last night, as they took in the first grandstand act of the six-day fair. The grandstands were near capacity for Colin Raye, Aaron Tippen and Sammy Kershaw, highlighting day one. And despite some brief mid-afternoon rain showers, the weather was perfect for the start of the fair. General Manager Dale Christiansen said he was very pleased with how things got started yesterday. Christiansen said the trackside seating was nearly sold out for last night's concert. And the Jer Lang Show Palace had standing room-only crowds for last night's market animal sale.

Christiansen says this fair has something for everyone. Today is senior citizen's day at the fair, with five-dollar admission until 5 p.m. for those 62-and-older. The Memories perform at 2:30 this afternoon in the family entertainment tent. The annual dress-a-cow contest starts at six tonight in the Lang Show Palace and Blackhawk takes the grandstand stage at 7:30.
