Neillsville City Council News

Friday, August 25th, 2017 -- 10:27 AM

The Neillsville City Council approved the health insurance renewal for city employees, approved a new ordinance and heard committee reports at their meeting on Tuesday.
The city renewed their insurance with Security Health Plan. They’ll see a 3.8% increase and they’ll renew as of October 1st with the new numbers taking effect at the beginning of January. Because of this, those on the insurance will see an increase in the deductible, but the city does cover half the cost. The city also approved denying an injury claim by a city resident who fell in the city back in 2015. This was recommended by the insurance company and the resident now has 6 months to file if they want to proceed to court.

The council also approved the new ordinance regarding citizen’s use of the sidewalks. At the last city council meeting, they discussed an issue with a Neillsville resident on a motorized cart riding down the highways with children on the cart and darting into traffic. In order to rectify this situation, the council approved the creation of a new ordinance that any resident on a cart must be on the sidewalk if its available. If not, they must be on the side of the road and going against traffic.

The council heard the Public Works Report. The usual amount of work was done in the city including cemetery and parks maintenance, equipment maintenance, street sweeping, trimming and pruning trees, mowing, filling pot holes, maintaining street lighting and more. The department is also working on street construction, painting street lines and more. The city also received a FEMA grant for flooding that occurred in September of last year and they’re continuing to work on the Phosphorous requirements by the DNR.

The council also heard the Historic Preservation Report. They discussed a fall cemetery tour for October. The council also heard the Heritage Days Committee Report. They decided on next year’s dates, discussed bands, discussed what went well this year and what could change next year, discussed new events and more.
