Fatal One Vehicle Crash In Wood County

One person was killed and another seriously injured in a one vehicle crash in Wood County early Thursday morning..At around 4:34 am Thursday morning, Wood County Dispatch was notified of a one vehicle crash on County D at Mattheis Road in the Town of Seneca in Wood County. According the press release, a male passenger from the crash had walked to a residence to summon help. The passenger indicated that the driver of the vehicle was still believed to be with the vehicle. Wood County Sheriff deputies located the vehicle and driver and the driver, 21 year old Ethan L. Smith of Vesper was found to be deceased.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle was southbound on County D when it approached the curve at Mattheis RD. The driver was not able to maintain control of the vehicle and entered the ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn. Both the driver and passenger are believed to have been ejected and neither was wearing safety belts at the time of the crash. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. The passenger, 21 year old Brennan S. Rucinski of Wisconsin Rapids, was transported to Riverview/Aspirus Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids with serious injuries.
