Neillsville City Council News

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017 -- 10:19 AM

The Neillsville City Council approved taking the next steps for a sewer rate increase.

The city previously increased the sewer rate by 15% in 2014. A study provided a few different options for the city to take in regards to the increase. They could do nothing, increase the rate by 3%, increase the rate by 5% or increase the rate by 7%. The city’s sewer plant has seen a steady amount in revenues and expenses have gone down considerably due to the final payments made on the loan for the facility upgrade. With the 3% and 5% increase, the city will still see a deficit to the plant by 2021. However, a 7% increase would allow the city to remain in the positive by 2021. In the end, the city decided to go with the 5% and they’ll review a future increase if necessary. This approval will just begin the process to increase the rate.

The council also approved the Neillsville Chamber of Commerce to use the Gazebo and Snietman Town Square for the Christmas Tree lighting on December 2nd. They also approved a donation of $750 for Cliffs Park by Gross Motors.
