Owen City Council Discusses Several Items

-The Owen City Council approved several reports at their meeting on Tuesday of last week.

They heard and approved the treasurer, police and public works reports. They also approved advertising for a police officer position and denied the Owen Police Chief’s 3 hour trip to Stevens Point. They also approved outside employment to one of the city’s officers to be a Clark County Reserve Deputy. The council approved to create a policy for the Personnel Committee to conduct exit interviews and approved the resignation of the Ward 1 alderman. During the Public Opinion portion of the meeting, the city and its residents’ relationships with the police department was discussed.

Finally, the council heard the CDC’s report. Tim Swiggum reported the Car Show is coming up on August 19th. The DRC has been working on the final arrangements. Heartland’s rail spur is waiting for DNR approval. The rail grant has been cut in half from $240,000 to $120,000 due to the retained jobs counting at $1,250 per job instead of $5,000. TIF 4 will have a tax base of $10 million for 2017. The America in Bloom program has been put on the back burner for now. Librarian Loralee Peterson is considering a Wi-Fi Park across from the library.
