Wide Variety of Topics at Neillsville City Council Meeting

Wednesday, August 9th, 2017 -- 9:15 AM

-The Neillsville City Council discussed a wide variety of topics at their meeting on Tuesday.

The council approved the Neillsville Chamber of Commerce’s request to use Snietman Town Square and the gazebo for Autumn Harvest Fest. They also approved the chamber’s request to close the streets for the event. They also discussed the city’s ordinance regarding the use of sidewalks. Neillsville’s ordinance is doesn’t offer any specification on who should be using the sidewalks and when. This discussion came about because one alderman, with the other alderman and mayor conquering, that there is a resident in town who uses a motorized cart and frequently is riding down the highways instead of the sidewalk.

The alderman also stated that they’ve seen the resident with children on the cart riding down the highways. The council worries that the children and resident will get hurt if they continue to ride the cart up and down the highways. The alderman would like to see a change in the ordinance defining the motorized cart and simply stating that if there’s a sidewalk, that resident should be using the sidewalk. The council approved having the city attorney and police chief look at the city’s current ordinance, make necessary changes and bring back to the council for approval.
