Clark County Extension Office at the Clark County Fair, Part 5

Monday, August 7th, 2017 -- 11:22 AM

-The Clark County Fair begins next week and the Clark County UW-Extension Office is hard at work preparing for it.

I spoke with Melissa Kono, CNRED Agent, and Chris Holler, 4-H Advisor, and they talked about some of the events they’re doing at the fair. Chris continued the interview by talking about the many, many events happening with the 4-H at the Clark County Fair.

Chris: "Again, it's going to be a bit hectic and parents are a little stressed. If I have something being judged in woodworking and I have something being judged in nutrition right off the bat; what if they're being judged at the same time? And that will happen. We know that. It's okay. The person being judged in woodworking can just tell the volunteer that I'm just going to bring my project over there to the foods people. Let that volunteer know that 'hey, coming right back. See? I'm right over there' and then walk it back over."

Melissa: "It's all in one room!"

Chris: "Right! There is a wall between the dinning room and the fine arts building, but there's a double door. So, that'll be the biggest day for many of the 4-H families. We have the rabbit marketing judging on Wednesday night. Thursday and Friday, Thursday is a busy day with the swine, beef, goats and sheep coming in. Then Thursday night we have the cats. Last year our cats were panting because it was very hot. So, the judge was very adamant that it was too hot of a time to judge cats. So, we're going to do that in the Fine Arts Building where it's cooler and we're doing it in the evening. And then we're going to put signs up so hopefully people will come and watch the cat show."

Coming up on Monday, we’ll hear more about what’s happening at the Clark County Fair with the UW-Extension Office.
