UPDATE: One Person Killed in Accident West of Neillsville

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017 -- 9:46 AM

-One person is dead after the vehicle they were driving was involved in an accident on Highway 12 by Emer Lane in the Township of Mentor.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call of the crash at about 12:10am today. An initial investigation indicates that a pickup truck, driven by 19-year-old Brian Culton Scheel of Merrillan, was traveling south on 12 when he attempted to negotiate a corner by Emer Lane. The truck entered the west ditch and rolled several times ejecting Scheel. The truck came to rest on its top facing an easterly direction in a corn field. Scheel was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County Coroner.

Speed appears to be a factor in the accident and he was not wearing a seatbelt. The Alma Center Fire Department and First Responders and the Black River Falls Ambulance responded to the scene with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Clark County Coroner. The investigation is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff’s and Coroner’s Office. This is the 5th traffic fatality in Clark County for 2017.
