Wisconsin Crop Acreage Report

We now have a better idea of how Wisconsin farmers are using their cropland during the 2017 growing season.Wisconsin Ag Connection reports that the USDA released its crop acreage report on Friday, which notes that the total number of soybean acres planted in the state is estimated at a record high 2.15 million, up 190,000 acres from last year, but unchanged from the March intentions. Corn planted for all purposes is estimated at 4.05 million acres--unchanged from last year, but 50,000 acres more than the previous quarter's estimate. Winter wheat planted is estimated at 230,000 acres, with an 190,000 acres expected to be harvested for grain.
Oat acreage will be around 180,000, down 30,000 acres from last year's figures. An estimated 95,000 acres are expected to be harvested for grain. And total dry hay expected to be harvested for 2017 is estimated at 1.35 million acres, up 20,000 acres from last year. Alfalfa harvested acreage is unchanged from 2016 at an estimated 1.00 million acres. Nationally, corn plantings are estimated at 90.9 million acres, down three percent from last year. Soybean planted area for 2017 is estimated at a record high 89.5 million acres, up seven percent from last year.
