Marshfield Committees Discuss Ambulance Billing

Wednesday, April 19th, 2017 -- 7:29 AM

(WDLB) -There are five firms interested in handling ambulance billing for the city of Marshfield.

City Administrator Steve Barg told Marshfield's Finance-Budget-and-Personnel Committee last night that five companies submitted bids for the work prior to the April 7th deadline. He also said staff will review the proposals, then report back to the Common Council next week with a review and breakdown of all five proposals. Under Barg's timeline, members of the Council will review the proposals during the first week of May, followed by interviews on May 8th with the top candidates, a recommendation from the Finance Committee on May 16th, and then Council consideration May 23rd.

In the meantime, Barg said city staff will put together some ideas for ways to handle ambulance bills which have been piling up since the two workers who were doing the job left city employment earlier this year. Several Aldermen said last night that the employee who retired from doing ambulance billing at the end of 2016 might be willing to come back on a temporary basis to help get the city caught up. Currently, pending ambulance bills are not being sent out until the staffing issue is resolved.
