Marshfield Common Council Hears About School District's Upgrade

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017 -- 8:06 AM

(WDLB) -Marshfield Aldermen got an update last night on the school district's plans for improvements to its athletic facilities, and how those plans might impact city streets and parking.

The Marshfield Common Council heard from Pat Saucermann, the Business Manager for the Marshfield School District, concerning plans for more than 10-million dollars worth of improvements to the district's athletic facilities--and what the impacts of those facilities might be. A few aldermen expressed concerns about an aging Becker Road being able to handle an increase in traffic with the district's proposed new football and outdoor track stadium going in next to the high school, plus new track and soccer fields at Marshfield Middle School--which will replace a portion of the existing Beell Stadium.

The other improvements the school district is looking at include a soccer and practice football field on the vacant lot adjacent to the Tiny Tiger Center across from the high school, along with a J-V baseball field and a 100-space parking lot. The projects have been given a 10-point-five-million dollar price tag. Proposed improvements that were given lesser priority include two softball diamonds and a soccer field at the Madison Elementary property across Becker from Tiny Tiger and the high school, plus some locker room upgrades within the high school.
