Jackson County Fire Department Responds to Apartment Fire

Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 -- 11:27 AM

-The Jackson County Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on Saturday.

The department was paged early Saturday morning for a report of an apartment fully engulfed in fire at 1256 Harrison Street in the City of Black River Falls. When the department arrived, they observed heavy fire venting out a large window and door way of the one story multi-family wood frame apartment complex. The fire appeared to be coming from one of the six apartments. It was noted the fire was just starting to come through the roof and appeared to be running in the attic space. Black River Falls Police Department had evacuated all occupants from five of the six apartments. The occupant of the fire apartment was identified as 31-year-old Kathryn Sage Montana.

The home is owned by Charles Torgerson and is insured. A damage estimate is not known at this time. The occupants of the complex are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The department was on the scene for almost 4 hours with 11 firefighters and used an estimated 2,440 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. No firefighters or civilians of the five remaining apartments were injured during the fire.
