Marshfield Economic Development Board Signs Off on Final Design of City's "Wenzel Family Plaza"

Friday, March 31st, 2017 -- 8:03 AM

(WDLB) -The public will get a chance on Monday to see the recommended final design of Marshfield's new "Wenzel Family Plaza" downtown.

The city's Economic Development Board signed off on the final design during its meeting yesterday at City Hall, and sent a recommendation to the Board of Public Works for its meeting on Monday. Marshfield's Director of Development Services Jason Angell says the plan for the city’s 200-block on the site of the former Marshfield News-Herald includes park-type amenities like greenspace, outdoor dining and seating areas, a performance stage for outdoor concerts and a water element as well.

There will be a public information meeting starting at 3 p.m. so citizens can see the plaza's design elements, leading up to a meeting by the Board of Public Works, which will consider the final design of the plaza. The plaza’s price tag is roughly one-point-three million dollars, and private fundraising efforts have gone well so far, and will cover the lion's share of the new development. Work is scheduled to start this spring, with completion scheduled for October. The plaza will first be open for public use next year.
