Representative Kulp Talks State Budget

Thursday, March 30th, 2017 -- 11:06 AM

(Mike Warren, WDLB) -A central Wisconsin lawmaker sides with Governor Walker when it comes to higher registration fees for more road funding in the state.

During a 90-minute listening session on the proposed two-year state budget at the Marshfield Chamber on Wednesday afternoon, State Representative Bob Kulp went against some other Republican lawmakers who've already come out in support of higher vehicle registration fees as a way to increase funding for new and improved roads, bridges and highways in the Badger state. Kulp says he's not necessarily in favor of an increase in the gasoline tax, either.

There is one area of the budget proposal where Kulp disagrees with the Governor. The Stratford Republican says he's against Walker's call to continue a freeze on U-W tuition. The state budget process is getting underway this week, as agency heads make their pitches to the Legislature's budget-writing Joint Finance Committee, which will begin a series of six listening sessions around the state on Monday, and running through April 21st. The overall state budget proposal from Walker totals nearly 77-billion dollars.
