Marshfield Voters Hear from School Board Candidates

Thursday, March 30th, 2017 -- 8:01 AM

(Mike Warren, WDLB) -Voters in the Marshfield school district had a chance last night to hear from the four people running for two spots on the Board of Education.

The Marshfield High School Student Council hosted a candidates' forum in the high school L-M-C, where two incumbents and two challengers spent 90 minutes talking about themselves, some of the issues facing the district and answering questions from the audience. Three-year incumbent Dorothy Chaney says she wants to continue giving a voice to kids whose parents don't speak up on their behalf. Mark Konrardy is the other incumbent in next Tuesday's election. He'd like to see more of what's been successful at the high school level introduced in the lower grades as well.

Dr. Ruwan Dissanayake (DISS-n-YAH-kee) has lived in Marshfield for 10 years. And with fourth-and-eighth-graders in school, the Sri Lanka native wants to be more involved in their education. Challenger Keith Pugh is a Columbus High School graduate, and -- like Dr. Dissanayake -- has kids going through the Marshfield school system. The top two vote-getters next Tuesday will win three-year terms on the Marshfield Board of Education running until the spring of 2020.
