State Distributes Forest Road Aid to Counties

Sunday, March 26th, 2017 -- 8:47 AM

This week Governor Walker announced that $285,000 in County Forest Road Aids have been distributed to 24 Wisconsin counties. These funds help maintain and improve about 900 miles of public roads within county forests.

Marinette County, with nearly 225 miles of eligible county forest roads, received the largest payment of more than $70,500. Locally Clark County received over $14,000, Jackson County received over $2700, Eau Claire County received over $5600, and Wood County received over $3200 in Forest Road aid for fiscal year 2016.

For a road to qualify for the state funding, it must meet minimum design standards of a 16 foot surface width and a 20 foot roadway width; be located within a county forest; be open and used for travel; and cannot already be declared as a town road, county or state highway.
