(Mike Warren, WDLB) -Wood County officials last night presented their plans to expand the Powers Bluff recreation area.About three-dozen people attended an open house-style event at the current Powers Bluff shelter house, where Wood County Parks-and-Forestry Director Chad Schooly covered the details of a proposed development project, with an end goal to separate the different user groups in order to protect the cultural and environmentally-sensitive areas of the park--while still maintaining the ability to expand outdoor recreation opportunities. Schooly says the Powers Bluff Development Project would total four-and-a-half million dollars--and include a state-of-the-art multi-use shelter building, capable of holding large-scale events.
The proposed development also includes the addition of snow-making equipment--something that would be new to Wood County. A capital campaign for the proposed new development kicked off in January, with a fundraising end goal of 2019. Schooly says that's the earliest a groundbreaking ceremony would be held.
