Clark County Deputy Quits After Several Allegations Come to Light

Wednesday, March 15th, 2017 -- 10:13 AM

(Marshfield News Herald) -A Clark County deputy quit his job last fall after he was accused of repeatedly getting drunk, stealing money intended for children and taking steaks without paying for them, newly released records show.

Patrol deputy Travis Boyer resigned in October when Sheriff Gregory Herrick threatened to take action to fire him, according to a complaint obtained by USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin under the state’s public records law. Had Boyer not quit, Herrick said in an interview this week that he was prepared to file the complaint with the county's Law Enforcement Committee, which could have found just cause to fire Boyer.

The complaint details two sets of potential charges against the 11-year deputy, who contends that the allegations are largely inaccurate or taken out of context. The first charge accused Boyer of seeking to use his authority as a police officer for personal gain. Boyer allegedly got upset with bartenders at a September wedding in Eau Claire when they stopped serving. The second charge alleged that Boyer lied during an investigation about $100 that was missing from money raised during a police association sporting event in 2015, and that Boyer might have used the cash to buy alcohol. There was a long list of other incidences involving Boyer as well.
