Marshfield City Council Discusses Ambulance Billing
Wednesday, March 15th, 2017 -- 8:08 AM
(WDLB) -The city of Marshfield will solicit bids from private companies which might be interested in handling the city's ambulance billing. The Common Council voted 6-to-4 last night in favor of directing staff to send out a request for proposals, or R-F-P. City Administrator Steve Barg said the idea of outsourcing ambulance billing to a private contractor came up recently, with the retirement of a half-time person who was doing the job in conjunction with a full-time person who is leaving that post on Friday. Alderman Ed Wagner was among the four Council members who voted against the R-F-P process, saying he's certain he wants to keep ambulance billing in-house.
Mayor Chris Meyer said there was no way the city could have been prepared for what recently happened--Fire Chief Bob Haight retiring, and both ambulance-billing staff members leaving--all since the start of the year, two of them this month alone. In the meantime, Interim Fire Chief Scott Owen told the Council that pending ambulance bills will not be sent out until the staffing issue is resolved.
