Wisconsin Sees 10% Iincrease in 2016 Field and Miscellaneous Crop Production

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The production of Wisconsin's field and miscellaneous crops was valued at $3.60 billion in 2016.That is a 10 percent increase from the previous year, despite the fact that corn and soybeans had record-high production and yields during the year. According to the USDA's latest Crop Values summary, the value of corn for grain production in the Badger State totaled $1.89 billion, up 11 percent from the previous year, with production rising 16 percent higher at the same time. Wisconsin's corn price averaged $3.30 per bushel, which was down 16-cents from the last marketing season.
The value of soybean production was about a billion dollars--up 24 percent compared to 2015. Production also went up 16 percent statewide. The average price increased 62-percent from the previous year to $9.35 per bushel. Value of production also increased for maple syrup and potatoes. Oats, winter wheat, alfalfa hay, other hay, and all forage had a decrease in value of production from last year.
