Greenwood School Board Fills Vacant Board Position

The Greenwood School Board filled the vacant Board position.

The Board appointed Rebecca Greisen to fill the vacant seat on the board. This is a 1-year appointment to complete the term.  The Board also discussed the mask/face covering policy. A motion to make masks optional starting May 17th failed, but a motion to make masks optional starting May 24th passed. Masks will be required on all school buses through June 4th as this is a federal order.

The Board also conducted the first reading of the NEOLA 29-2 Policy Update.  The board also received a financial update from Ms. Zimmer, approved several budget transfers, approved the uniform bid package from Aramark, approved a motion to forgive Greenwood Bus Company PPP loan pay back, and approved three capital projects.

The capital projects include replacing the remaining original carpet in the elementary school, replacing the access road to the elementary school, and the bid to patch, seal coat, and re-stripe the district parking lots.  The Board also received an update on smaller potential summer projects and received an Instructional Update from Administrator Todd Felhofer and Principal Joe Green.

AGR/SAGE program has been reapproved for another 5 years. The district received a waiver from the DPI for the requirements of the Educator Effectiveness program.

The state of Wisconsin also received a waiver from the US Department of Education regarding some of the reporting requirements of the ESEA. This relates to the reporting of standardized test scores.

The District also approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Children’s Service Society to allow for on-site student counseling in 2021-22. The District approved the revised 2021-2022 Student and Staff school year calendars.

The Board also accepted the $500 Career Prep Mini Grant from CVTC for Mr. Werner’s Sticks of Steel Welding Project.  The Board also accepted the resignation of Michelle Ericksen as an Elementary Special Education teacher.

The Board approved the employment of Ashley Brockman as a 4K teacher, Theresa Jensen as an Elementary Special Education teacher, and the transfer of Lisa Theisen as a Middle School teacher to 6th grade.

The Board also approved Forward Bank as the official depository, approved the District Newsletter as the official newspaper and TRG as the secondary publication, approved the regular board meeting details, which will be the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 pm in the High School Library, approved Weld Riley as the District Legal Advisor, and approved Mark Shain as the District CESA 10 representative.

The Board tabled, until the June meeting, the selection of the WASB Delegate and WASB Delegate Alternate, the District CWETN representative, the District ESSA representative, and Committee assignments for 2021-22.

The Board also heard the Committee Reports.  Board Member Mark Shain reported on the CESA matters.  The Transportation and Safety Committee discussed how the year has been going with revised bus routes. The Buildings and Grounds had a discussion of potential summer maintenance and repair projects. The Employee Relations Committee completed a revision of the 2022-23 calendar. The revised calendar was discussed later on the agenda.

The Board heard the Administrator’s Reports.  Elementary Principal Joe Green provided an update on the Annual Color Run scheduled for Wednesday, May 26 th at 6:30 pm. Plans are underway to bring back the Kids Club afterschool program for the 2021-22 school year.

The district is expanding the 4K program next. Registration materials for the 2021-22 school year have been sent home and parents are asked to return the completed materials by Friday, May 21st . Summer school registration is continuing.

District Administrator Todd Felhofer provided an update on the State’s biennial budget process. Letters of Reasonable Assurance for Support Staff and Substitute Employees will be sent later this week. Teacher contracts will also be sent out this week ahead of the May 15 th deadline.

Finally, during the Communications from the Public portion of the meeting two residents spoke in favor of maintaining the wearing of masks/face coverings through the end of the school year. Eleven residents spoke in favor of making the wearing of masks/face coverings optional. Another resident inquired into what type of metric would be used to determine when masks would be optional or eliminated.
