Wednesday, October 19th, 2016 -- 6:36 AM

-The Neillsville City Council heard several Finance Committee reports at their meeting on Tuesday of last week.

The city is currently working on next year’s budget. During a Finance Committee meeting held on October 3rd, the council heard the budget for the Cemetery. The cemetery saw an increase in their budget from 2016’s $67,531 to 2017’s $80,324. That increase is due to the fact the cemetery needs a new lawnmowers expected to cost around $12,793. The Parks budget was also presented. There was an increase from 2016’s $60,454 to 2017’s $73,486. That increase was, again, mainly due to the purchase of lawnmowers, which the cemetery shares with parks.

The committee also heard the Public Works budget for 2017. Overall, the department saw an increase in their budget from 2016’s $875,457 to 2017’s $930,948. Some of the biggest increases came from garbage service, vehicles, equipment, supplies and expenses and contracted services. They were also shown the costing of paving some city streets and with varying levels of thickness for the pavement. The committee was shown the airport budget which had a slight increase for 2017 at $25,248 and the airport outlay remained the same at $5,000. The Net Taxi Service placed on the City Tax Levy came to $69,400. Finally, the committee heard the 2017 budgets for the Beautification, Historic Preservation and Heritage Days committees. They all remained the same as 2016 at $1,700, $1,900 and $1,500 respectively.
