Granton City Council Discusses Bridge Site Damages

Friday, October 14th, 2016 -- 8:02 AM

-The Granton City Council discussed the damages done to the bridge site at their meeting on Wednesday.

According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the village presented to the DOT, an outline of the scenario involving the damages at the bridge site, photos of the damages, copies of the bills and a request for payment in the amount of $4888.03. The DOT reviewed the information and informed the village that after the final inspection is complete, the DOT releases the contractors. Pfiffer Brothers is the general contractor and the village will need to submit the information to them. The DOT will assist the village and provide contact information for Pfiffer but wanted the village to be aware that the contractor claims that Diggers Hotline was properly notified requesting a relocate of the utilities at the site and that the valve boxes were not marked.

Granton’s clerk accessed the Diggers Hotline requests and confirmed that a relocate had been called in Aug 28th of 2015. The village then has 3 days to properly mark the utilities and then the work must be completed within 10 days. A motion was made to stop the request for reimbursement of the damages, noting that utilities had been previously marked with tall stakes and the contractor removed the stakes, covered the valve boxes with dirt and should therefore has some responsibility. It was also noted, neither the village nor the fire department has record of the date of the incident.
