Senator Ron Johnson Talks Re-Election, Part 2

Thursday, October 13th, 2016 -- 10:37 AM

-Senator Ron Johnson’s campaign reached out to me last week and I spoke with the Senator about his re-election this November.

Senator Johnson talked about the issues he plans to tackle if he’s re-elected.

"As chairman of the committee I chair, one of the first things we did was develop a mission statement: to enhance the economic and national security of America. And that pretty well sums up what I'll be working on. On the homeland security side of my committee, we established 4 priorities: border security, cyber security, protecting our critical infrastructure including the electrical grid, we're ignoring the problems there, and countering Islamic Terror here on our homeland."

"And then on the governmental affairs side, I have oversight jurisdiction over the entire federal government, but I really focus on what we need to do to get government off the backs of people who are trying to build businesses and create good paying jobs. We have to grow our economy. And the way you do that is you have to reduce the massive regulatory burden. It costs about $14,800 per household per year to comply with federal regulations. Now, nobody rights a check for that. That's why it's gotten so out of control."

"What happens is we have reduced opportunity because we're less competitive globally. You end up with lower wages. When businesses have to spend, for example, one Wisconsin paper manufacturer, just for regulations, costing a Wisconsin paper manufacturer $12,000 per year per employee. That's money they don't have available to putting in your paycheck and providing greater benefits. And of course then it also results in higher prices. The cost of a water heater is $450 more because of federal government regulations. So, that's the first thing. Lets reduce that regulatory burden. From my standpoint, I think we're better off having that $12,000 or $14,800 instead of feeding massive government bureaucracy, in your paycheck feeding and providing for your family. And then we have to have better tax increase."

Coming up on Friday, Senator Johnson will talk in more detail about some of the issues he will address if he’s re-elected.
