Marshfield City Council Hears Recommended 2017 Budget

Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 -- 8:03 AM

(Mike Warren, WDLB) -Marshfield property owners would pay a bit more for city services next year, under a recommended budget for 2017.

City Administrator Steve Barg presented his recommended 2017 city budget to the Marshfield Common Council Tuesday night. He's proposing a total spending package totaling 43-point-eight million dollars, an increase of one-point-six million from this year's budget, or three-point-eight percent. To help pay a portion of that budget, Barg is recommending a property tax rate of nine-dollars and 12-cents for every one-thousand dollars of assessed value--a five-cent increase from this year.

The proposed increase represents one-half of one-percent. The proposed budget also includes a one-and-a-half percent increase in salaries for all non-represented employees. And there's more money for street resurfacing and repair. Barg says there's nearly one-point-nine million in asphalt resurfacing projects. The Council is scheduled to vote on the budget next month. In the meantime, aldermen will hold a series of meetings to review each portion of the budget, and consider any changes they might want to make to the proposed spending plan.
