Get Fired Up for Safety Event in Marshfield

Monday, October 10th, 2016 -- 8:05 AM

(Mike Warren, WDLB) -Area kids got a chance on Sunday afternoon to learn fire safety first-hand, and area fire and rescue departments were out in full force to teach them.

The annual Get Fired Up for Safety event was held along North Central Avenue in Marshfield, featuring crews and engines from a number of area fire departments. Pittsville Fire Chief Jerry Minor says the annual event has done a lot to prevent fires since it began 13 years ago. The Pittsville Fire Department added a new feature to its display this year--representation from the state Department of Natural Resources.

The Marshfield Area Fire and Rescue Department conducted its annual teddy bear drop, giving away the stuffed toys as they parachuted down from the department's aerial ladder truck. And kids had a chance to put out small fires with a hose, and learn how to escape from a burning building. The day's events began with the annual fire truck parade from the Central Wisconsin State fairgrounds to the event's location along N. Central Avenue.
