This Week is National 4-H Week, Final

Friday, October 7th, 2016 -- 11:33 AM

-This week is National 4-H week.

I spoke with Chris Holler, the 4-H Advisor with the Clark County UW-Extension Office, and she talked about 4-H week and how kids can get involved.

"Again, 4-H is all year long and to try and cram it into this one little week is kinda hard. We are doing a Volunteer In-Training Preparation. And that's, again, for any volunteers who join into 4-H and that's our adults. WE need to go through a volunteer preparation training and they need to go through a criminal background check and a mandated reporter training, so that we know they're a quality person working with our youth because we're all over the place. We're camping out in the boonies and all different things. So, we want to make sure we have some quality adult volunteers with us as well."

"They can go about it two ways. They can just call the Extension Office and we can get them some information and they can also just go to 4-H online, which is a national based program, but they can look just at Wisconsin and they can sign up for a club. And enrollment happens all year long. Right now the clubs are, from September one to November one, any people who are currently enrolled in clubs have to re-enroll, so we always have a consistent number, but youth can enroll all year long."

Chris said that kids who join 4-H learn valuable life skills they can use all through their lives.
