This Week is National 4-H Week, Part 2

Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 -- 11:36 AM

-This week is National 4-H week.

I spoke with Chris Holler, the 4-H Advisor with the Clark County UW-Extension Office, and she explained more of the things 4-H students did this past summer.

"For our little bit younger kids, like the 12-14 or 15, up in there, they can also go is the Washington D.C. Leadership Focus. These guys are also going out, but their focus isn't so much on writing bills and learning about government. It's more about the leadership and how you get into those positions and those different pieces. So, an equally valuable experience. And for anyone to go on a trip, at least for 4-H, they do need to submit an application, which is actually now. We gotta be thinking nine months ahead! Because only so many kid slots are allotted for Wisconsin kids to go out. So, they have to submit an application, which is a simple resume to help work on those skills. And then also to sit through an interview. Just the interview practice is good. It can be unnerving, but really it's just an opportunity to talk about yourself and to start thinking about being in an interview and talking with someone across the table from you. So, they get to do those trips if they're selected and they can keep building on those trips."

Coming up on Wednesday, Chris will continue to explain what 4-H students did this past summer.
