This Week is National 4-H Week, Part 1

Monday, October 3rd, 2016 -- 11:15 AM

-This week is National 4-H week.

I spoke with Chris Holler, the 4-H Director, and she explained some of the things 4-H students did this past summer.

"What's great about 4-H is that all though we have National 4-H week, which is one week a year, really that belies everything else that we do the rest of the year. So, one week? Great. What we did last summer? Fantastic! Lets start off with the big kids and I'll work my way down. So, with the older kids, like the age 14-19 group of 4-Hers, they have opportunities to earn trips. So, they could go out to Washington D.C. for what's called Washington D.C. Citizenship Focus where they learn more about government. They write their own bill, for and against and they can be on either side. And they write that. They can also go on the American Spirit Trip, which is kind of, basically, a history tour out east. We had two individuals go out on that trip. You see the Statue of Liberty. You see all these historical places. And part of your time on that trip is that you are going to present on a historical place that you're going to be going to. So, every youth has to put together a presentation that's interactive to teach the whole bus of kids. Sometimes you're teaching on the bus, sometimes you're teaching at that location."

Coming up on Tuesday, we’ll hear more things 4-H students did this past summer.
