Wisconsin Milk and Cheese Prices

Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $18.00 per hundredweight for their milk in August.
According to the USDA's Agricultural Prices report, that was $1.40 higher than last month, 40-cents more than last year; and is the highest price received by producers since November 2015. The U.S. milk price for August was $17.10 per cwt., 90-cents lower than Wisconsin's price, but $1.00 more than July's price. All of the 23 major milk producing states had an increase in price from June. Minnesota and Wisconsin had the largest price increase.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.53 per pound on September 29, while barrels were $1.47 per pound. The CME butter price was $1.91 per pound. For the week ending September 24, the Agricultural Marketing Service's U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.72 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.64 per pound.
