Neillsville School Board's Annual Meeting, Part 1

Tuesday, August 30th, 2016 -- 9:18 AM

-The Neillsville School Board held their Annual Meeting on Monday.

The board and Neillsville residents present began the meeting by hearing a presentation from District Administrator John Gaier on funding for the district. The unaudited revenue from the previous school year came to $10,622,998. The budgeted revenue for the next school year came to $10,477,288, which was a slight decrease. The district has only seen a .08% increase in revenue over the past decade. Revenue per student for Neillsville comes to $11,459 compared to $13,031 for the state.

In regards to expenses, the unaudited expenditures for the previous school year came to $10,581,451. The budgeted expenses for this year come to $10,482,553, which was also a slight decrease. The cost per student for Neillsville comes to $11,426 compared to the state's $12,642. The general fund for Neillsville came to $3,571,244 for the next school year. The general fund is supposed to equalize all school districts, but accounting tricks tend to favor the wealthier, suburban districts and penalize the smaller, rural districts.
