Book Signing at Granton Community Library on Tuesday, Part 2

Monday, August 22nd, 2016 -- 11:11 AM

-Jay Parker, a Granton native, will be at the Granton Community Library tomorrow, Tuesday, August 23rd, signing copies of his new book, Granton: A Stop on the Stage Route from 5pm-6pm.

This book has been 6 years in the making. I spoke with Jay and he talked about some interesting things he learned while putting the book together.

"One of the parameters that I set for myself when I got going was that I was going to try and stay within the village limits. There was another book written about 40 years ago that covered as many families that wanted to contribute something. And I didn't want to rehash that information again. So, once I got past the history of logging and the coming of the train in the 1890s, I kept the book within the parameters of the boundaries of the village. So, that kind of narrowed it down and there were some things that I found that were interesting."

"There was one story about someone that had died in a particular way, and I won't give too much information on it, but, all the information I could find from different people, and some of this information was written on the back of photos and such, was that he had died on a particular day in a particular way. Except, I could never find anything in official records to verify that. And then I did actually find a newspaper clipping, from a newspaper elsewhere in the state, that showed this person attending an event 8 to 9 months after he had supposedly died. So, I knew there was something wrong there and that sent me into doing some research. And I finally did find out what had happened. And it was similar to what the original story allegedly was, but it was different also and so I wrote in some detail about that."

Coming up on Tuesday, Jay will talk about the book signing occurring that night.
