Health Insurance and More at Neillsville City Council Meeting

Tuesday, August 16th, 2016 -- 11:24 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved the Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Contract at their meeting last week.

During a Solid Waste and Recycling Committee meeting held on August 11th, the committee heard two bids, one from Express Disposal and the other from Advance Disposal. Advance offered a bid of $9.40 per household and they also offered a shorter time period on their contract. Express wanted a 10 year commitment from the city with their bid. The committee recommended the council accept the bid from Advance, which they did.

The council also heard an update on Health Insurance. The city has its health insurance through Security Health Plan. There was a slight increase for the insurance plans. For a single person they’ll see an increase of $5.17 while a family will see an increase of $11.20. The increase for retirees was very high compared to those still working. A single person will see an increase of $208.33 while a family will see an increase of $416.67. The council did state that they are looking into a new insurance provider, but, if they were to do that, the coverage wouldn’t start until January, so they would still need this in the interim.
