Primary Election Today, Voter ID Law in Effect

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016 -- 10:31 AM

-Today is an election primary in the State of Wisconsin.

Most of today’s elections involve local or state primary challenges, but most are not contested. For Clark County, the biggest races include the Democratic Primary for the U.S. Senate with Russ Feingold and Scott Harbach. There is a Democratic Primary for the U.S. House District 7 with Mary Hoeft and Joel Lewis. Finally, there’s a Republican Primary for the U.S. House District 7 with Sean Duffy and Don Raihala. There are other state district seats up for election. There are some county positions open as well, such as Register of Deeds, District Attorney and more, but they are uncontested in today’s primary.

One of the big things to note for this election is that the Voter ID Law is in effect. Just like with the April election, you will need a valid ID with you at the polls to vote. Also, there is no affidavit available today for someone who doesn't have an acceptable photo ID. A federal judge has ordered that an affidavit be available in November, but that order has been appealed. No judges have overturned Wisconsin's voter ID law.
