Commodity Carnival at the Clark County Fair, Part 3

Friday, August 5th, 2016 -- 9:16 AM

-A Commodity Carnival will be held during the Clark County Fair next week.

CME Group and the National 4-H Council have partnered for the fourth year to bring the Commodity Carnival to the state’s fairs and carnivals. They will be setup at this year’s Clark County Fair to help teach youth lessons about agriculture, business and the economy. I spoke with Pam Hobson of the 4-H Wisconsin Extension and she explained who will be running the carnival at the Clark County Fair.

"What we do with this is, we work with the Extension 4-H staff and what they do is they find older youth and they train those older youth to actually run the booth for us while we're there. This year, through the state of Wisconsin, we're going to be at 28 different fairs or events and so it's impossible for us to be there. For instance, this weekend we will be down here with it at the Wisconsin State Fair. We can't be at all places and that's how we do it. And the good thing about this is, not only is it good for the general public, but those youth that actually work in the booth learn about their projects as well and they also learn some of those life skills like communicating and being able to talk to the general public and those kinds of things. So, it's like a duel purpose thing here. It's a win/win for 4-H and those older youth as well as our customers."

Coming up on Monday, Pam will talk about the other places the go with the Commodity Carnival.
