Marshfield Woman Enters Plea for Child Neglect Charges

Monday, August 1st, 2016 -- 11:31 AM

-A Marshfield woman arrested and charged with child neglect after she dropped a child in front of police at her home entered a plea to the charges against her.

According to court records, police were called to the home of Erin Vandenberg because two men who lived there, Kevin Vandenberg and Hector Martinez, were arguing. When authorities arrived there were 4 children crying and hysterical. The home was in deplorable conditions with food, debris, garbage and clothing scattered all over. There were also medications and a kitchen knife in reach of the children. Vandenberg, who admitted to drinking, was stumbling around the home and hitting walls after authorities arrived. At one point, she picked up a 2-year-old child, fell into a wall and dropped the child who hit a table with his back.

All three adults were drunk with Erin having a BAC of .11%, Kevin with .27% and Martinez with .21%. The two men are facing charges of disorderly conduct. Erin had four charges filed against her including one count of neglecting a child with the consequence of bodily harm and 3 counts of neglecting a child. She entered a guilty plea to the three child neglect charges in Wood County Court on Friday.
