Clark County Continues to Hold the Highest Number of Dairy Herds

Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 -- 10:24 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The state's agriculture department has announced its latest dairy herd count numbers, which indicates there were 9,517 herds milking in Wisconsin during the first week of June.

That's a drop of 383 since the same month a year ago. Clark County continues to hold the highest number of herds in the state with 852. Forest County ranks last in the state with just one herd, with Florence and Milwaukee Counties each registering only two.

Despite having less herds, the state's remaining dairy operations are still milking over 1.28 million head. DATCP records show that 88 percent of state dairy operations are Grade A certified, with 12 percent licensed as Grade B.
