(Mike Kobs, WDLB) -Police in Madison may be a step closer to identifying the person who killed Brittany Zimmermann.According to Mike Kobs of WDLB, the U-W Madison student from Marshfield was killed in her apartment April 2nd of 2008, and no one has been arrested in connection with the crime. But a search warrant unsealed on Wednesday has confirmed that police have tentatively made a D-N-A match from Zimmermann's body to that of a man who was reported to be in the area of Brittany's apartment the day she died.
The D-N-A sample apparently matches David Kahl, who investigators say was identified by a friend who told police Kahl confessed to him he killed Zimmermann. The 50-year-old Kahl was a suspect early in the initial investigation, and was interviewed by police. And he was also identified by Brittany's neighbors, who said Kahl had gone door-to-door the day of her death asking for money to fix a tire which did not exist.
Kahl is currently at Dodge Correctional Institution. He was arrested March 31st for his 7th drunk driving offense. Kahl did admit back in February to being at Brittany's apartment on the day she died. But he also said he did not kill her.
