New Granton FFA/Ag Advisor Impressed with Community Support

Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 -- 11:34 AM

-The Granton Dairy Breakfast was held on Sunday and Dale Erickson got a chance to speak with Katie Chapman, the new Ag/FFA Advisor for Granton.

First, Katie provided some background about herself.

"I grew up being involved in 4-H and FFA. I did not grow up on a farm. I actually got involved in raising and showing sheep as well as doing a little bit of cattle and rabbits and dogs. And we ended up, actually, raising our sheep in our front yard because I didn't have that farm background. I was a 2011 Portage High School graduate where then I went on to college at UW-River Falls where I was majoring in Agricultural Education. Completing my education, I decided to intern here at Granton High School this fall and then I was, lucky enough, to be hired on for spring semester as a full time instructor in the ag department."

Katie then provided her thoughts on the support the FFA/Ag Program in Granton receives from the community.

"So far I've noticed that Granton has huge community support. The entire community rallies behind the ag department and that really helps in contributing to the success of our students. We do have several students who are going down to state convention in the upcoming week to show case some of their talents. And a lot of that success comes from their family support and even the support of the Granton FFA Alumni."

Finally, Katie talked about how impressed she was with the Dairy Breakfast.

"This is a huge success. I have a little bit of background attending other dairy breakfast and for a town this size to be able to draw this much community support, it's amazing. Just to see how everyone, especially the alumni, come together to get this all operating, it took almost a week of preparation, being out here every night. But it really shows with the support that everyone has out here."

With the second weekend of June almost here, there is still plenty of opportunities to get breakfast on the farm.
