Clark County Hosts SIMCOM 2016, Final
Monday, May 23rd, 2016 -- 10:52 AM
-Clark County was the host for SIMCOM 2016 at the Clark County Fairgrounds on Wednesday and Thursday.SIMCOM’s, or State Interoperable Mobile Communications Exercise, purpose is to bring multiple communications platforms together to make sure they can communicate with one another in an emergency situation. During their tests on Wednesday and Thursday, the operation was running smoothly. There were a few errors they noticed including some programing issues and they didn’t have as big of a footprint with their aircraft, once they were in the area, as they thought they would. However, they said now was a good time to have those problems, during a simulation, rather than an actual emergency.
The Clark County Fairgrounds were set up into divisions during the two day event. They had multiple agencies with in a specific division. A main hub would distribute simulated messages to each division in order to get them to talk with one another. They also had several helicopters land at the fairgrounds to test communications with them as well. The collaboration between all the groups involved and the setup up and technology present with each group was an amazing site to see.
