Neillsville School Board Approves Spring Sports Co-op with Granton

Thursday, May 19th, 2016 -- 9:03 AM

-The Neillsville School Board approved a co-op with the School District of Granton in regards to their spring sports.

The co-op agreement is due by June 1st in order for it to be in effect for the next school year. Track was already completed as they’ve already had a co-op between Neillsville and Granton’s track program. The board approved the co-op with Granton on baseball and softball. Neillsville was already in a co-op agreement with Granton for Middle School Softball. However, they didn’t agree to the co-op with Granton on the golf program. There was no interest from Granton on combining the two and Granton is already with Loyal for the golf program, so they want to see how that goes.

One board member did say that she’s heard concerns in the community about the co-op with Granton in regards to fall sports. She said that residents worry that with the increase in participation, Neillsville will be moved up a division making it harder for them to do well. Volleyball is an example of a sport that would happen with. It was also mentioned that regardless of whether or not students participate, the combined enrollment is counted for division’s placement.
