Stratford Man Convicted in Drunken Driving Death Arrested Again for 5th OWI

Tuesday, May 17th, 2016 -- 10:23 AM

-A Stratford man convicted in the drunken driving death of another man was arrested for drunk driving this past weekend.

Back in January of 2012, 34-year-old William Bowden was charged with OWI, and other charges, after he and his friend, 34-year-old Timothy Spindler, were ice fishing on the Eau Pleine Reservoir when their vehicle broke through the ice. Bowden escaped, but Spindler drowned in the incident. In March of 2014, a plea deal was reached and Bowden agreed to plead guilty to the OWI charge and several others were dismissed and read into the record. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison and 3 years of extended supervision after.

On Sunday morning, around 10am, authorities received a call that someone was throwing items out the sunroof of their vehicle on County Highway M near Rozeville. The vehicle, driven by Bowden, was located. He had a preliminary breath alcohol content of .13 and his vehicle did not have an ignition interlock device. Bowden has been charged with his 5th OWI.
