City of Marshfield Plans to Move City Hall by Summer of 2018

Thursday, May 12th, 2016 -- 9:28 AM

(WSAW) -The city of Marshfield plans to buy the current Forward Financial building for $2.6 million and move city hall by summer 2018.

City Administrator Steve Barg said the city government is looking to downsize from its current 7-story, 108,000 square-foot building. “We’re only using about a third of our building,” said Barg. The building is also in need of major repairs. When the city learned that Forward Financial was selling their current 25,000 square-foot building on W. Sixth Street, to build a new headquarters on the city’s north end, Barg says, the city began investigating a potential purchase.

City council members voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve the deal. Development firm Gorman and Company has agreed to purchase the city hall building for $500,000. The city will keep its rooftop antenna leasing agreements. Revenue created from the building sale and rooftop leasing, coupled with money saved by avoiding city hall building repairs, will make the deal “cost neutral” for taxpayers, according to Barg.
