Owen City Council Selects Official Newspaper

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016 -- 8:14 AM

-The Owen City Council began their meeting last week by selecting the city’s official newspaper.

Owen’s Mayor, Tom Nelson, gave both newspapers, the O-W Enterprise and Sentinel & Rural News, a chance to speak and “clear the air.” The two papers have been at odds with one another for some time now. In the end, the council approved the Sentinel & Rural News as the city’s official newspaper with one council member voting no. During the public opinion portion of the meeting, Karen Swiggum commented on the wonderful representation by Owen at the CCEDC Annual Meeting and thanked several people for doing the commercial skit for Owen. The council also approved a resolution adopting their portion of the Clark County Outdoor Recreation Plan and approved to send any Council Members that would like to attend the League’s Local Government Workshop in Eau Claire.

Two members of the NCCR were present to ask the City Council if they would allow ATV access into the City from the ATV trails. The council approved their group to work with the Ordinance Committee and update the ordinance as needed. Finally, Tim Swiggum explained about an Owen-Withee Curb Appeal Contest. The objective of the DRC Committee is to spruce up the community by home owners and businesses. More information is available at Owen City Hall and Withee Village Hall and the council approved the City to donate $150 toward the prize money for the contest.
