Owen-Withee-Curtiss Area Fire Department Celebrates New Firehouse with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Thursday, April 28th, 2016 -- 12:47 PM

-The Owen-Withee-Curtiss Area Fire Department celebrated the completion of their new firehouse with a ribbon cutting ceremony in Curtiss Wednesday afternoon.

Randy Busse, Village President of Curtiss, said the entire process has been long and drawn out.

"This has been a long, drawn out process. Actually, when our industrial park opened and they started building out here, our fire department came, back in 2003, with preliminary plans and said 'we need to update from the 1965 fire station that we have.' But, at that time, it just wasn't feasible economically. So, the plans were basically buried in the dust for 10 years. And, about 2 years ago, Sheila came to me and said 'what can Clark County Economic Development do for you?' And Mark came, almost right after that, and said, 'Randy, we have to do something about this fire station. I doesn't meet a dozen different codes.' So, Sheila contacted West Central Regional Planning."

Mark Renderman, with the fire department and Clark County Board Supervisor, was very grateful to all those that helped make the new station possible and was humbled by the amount of public support he saw.

"Again, I was really surprised when we had the public meeting and the people in the community came out to talk about whether or not we really needed a fire station. They came out and they really wanted a fire station and they were very clear about wanting an ambulance in the fire station as well. Our goal is to have the ambulance over here in the next few months as well."

Fred Schindler, of Marawood Construction and a Clark County Board Supervisor, offered his congratulations as well. His crew at Marawood designed the firehouse and Fred and his wife donated the land the firehouse sits on. Some of the funding for the fire hall was provided by grants written by the West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.
