Marshfield Clinic Hospitalists Now Providing Care at Memorial Medical Center

-Marshfield Clinic hospitalists are providing care at Memorial Medical Center (MMC), contracted to work 40 hours a week to better serve patient needs.Hospitalists are physicians whose primary focus is general medical care for hospitalized adult patients, from the time they are admitted until they are discharged. For the past 10 years, Marshfield Clinic hospitalists have provided care at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. The same hospitalists who staff Saint Joseph’s will be scheduled at MMC to provide after-surgery care and treat patients seen in the Emergency Department.
“Our region has recently experienced capacity issues which have resulted in an increase in transferring patients to hospitals in Eau Claire, La Crosse, Chippewa Falls, Stevens Point and Wausau,” said MMC CEO Ryan Neville. “Our emergency transfers are time sensitive and we attempt to transfer patients to their preferred hospital. We wanted to bring specialists from Marshfield to Neillsville so more care for patients is locally available.”
Over the years, MMC has referred patients to Marshfield Clinic for specialized treatment and care. “Many patients travel between Neillsville and Marshfield and we think it’s important to provide service closer to their homes and community,” said Dr. Ruwan Dissanayake, director of hospitalists care, Marshfield Clinic.
